How can I help you?

Having come most recently from a background in General Practice and having been both patient and doctor, I fully appreciate the hugely challenging task that GPs have to do in trying to help so many patients with such a vast array of different problems. They do an amazing job within the constraints of time and budget that are placed upon them, but all too often, due to these restrictions, a diagnosis can be little more than a label and a treatment acts as a sticky plaster rather than a cure: the real cause of a patient’s illness is not uncovered and the balance of health and wellbeing is never truly restored.

It is hugely encouraging to see the evolution and increasing popularity of the concept of lifestyle medicine (British Society of Lifestyle Medicine, Doctor in the House and an increasing frequency of news articles - see links below) and hopefully this will eventually lead to a paradigm shift in doctors’ training. At present, however, the NHS isn’t set up to deal with these fundamental issues and health foundations: the time and resources are not available to ensure each patient has a care plan that addresses the root cause of their problems then focuses not simply on medication but on their diet, exercise regime, sleep habits and stress management strategies in a bespoke way that will work for them. In my practice, however, this personalised care is possible.

Taking more time with each patient to dig right back to the start to their family history, mother’s health in pregnancy, childhood illnesses and exposures to immunisations, significant or traumatic life events, and looking in depth at current lifestyle factors, the Integrative Medicine approach I use builds a complete picture of understanding. With this comprehensive information, the patient and I can uncover the true origins of health problems and then, using the very latest investigations and involving allied professionals as required, we build a plan to address the root cause of an imbalance or illness and helping to restore and optimise health.

The term Integrative Medicine has been described as, “the practice of medicine that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, healthcare professionals, and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing.”

This is the way my team and I approach every patient.
